Suggestion if you are looking at new washers and dryers, the front loaders.

I replaced my washer and dryer a few months ago with Bosch front loaders, both are wonderful machines and the washer has helped my water bill go down by about 15% so what's the problem? Ok when i bought both there were pedestals that went along with them if you wanted, i chose not to buy them thinking i didn't really need them, well i was wrong and my back is killing me so i sucked it up and ordered the 15 inch ones yesterday and i think they'll be well worth the price.

So my suggestion is that if you do buy front loaders no matter what brand you really need to think about buying the pedestals as well, your back will thank you.

Thank you for confirming that to be the case. My current set of regular units is doing just fine right now, but it's worth knowing when the time comes.

2. Our pedestal was homegrown.

Yes, having the washer and dryer raised by 12 inches does help the back. With help from my dad - we built a riser out of 2x12s, 2x4s, and 3/4" plywood. It even has two drawers in the bottom, love it!

3. very cool. The salesperson told me the 15 inch ones that i'm getting are actual storage draws

as well which is always helpful, i have great storage in my laundry room now which i consider almost a luxury, i have wall cabinets where the washer and dryer are and then across i have a bank of bottom cabinets with a counter top so i have tons of room but it's nice to hide the det. and keep the counters clean for the laundry.

4. I stacked front loading w/d set

It gave us room to have a work sink in that mud room. But I know what you mean. When it bothers me to lean down I bring a chair over to sit and take stuff out of the washer. It's easy enough to toss it up into the dryer. At least the dryer is at eye level. :D

5. i used to have maytag stackables when i lived in a condo and i loved them. The washer was top

loading so you slid the lid backward, those were just about the most reliable appliances i ever had aside from the Bosch ones i have now.

They could be either side by side or stacked, so I choose to stack. One of our better decisions since I love having a work sink in the back hall/mud room.

7. me too. maytag neptune

they must have done a million loads by now. i had a front loader years ago that shook and rattled, but the neptune doesn't budge, and i quieter than anything i have ever had.

8. yay, they are here and my back is happy! Now i can take the clothes out and put

them on the counter or right in the dryer with no stooping down.

9. Not the movers back, though

I hired movers and the leader commented that the front loaders are always a lot heavier.

I could lift a top loading washer (with help) and get it up the stairs. Not with this front loader!

10. well my laundry room is on the first floor, you go through it to get to the garage

which is handy, of course hauling laundry up the stairs kind of sucks but for movers the 1st floor is much easier.
