Building your own solar and wind power generators

I just came across these links and wonder if anyone knows anything about these homemade power generators.

I know people who are using the french fry oil fuel, its easy and cheap to install in the car, maybe the power generators are as easy and effective.

Any thoughts?

1. I checked out the sites and I call bullshit.

You can't get parts to build a PV panel at your local hardware store.

One of the sites show a guy in Sacramento who is selling power back to the utilities.
That is a professional installation. He didn't make the solar panels himself.

You can make PV cells from scrap silicon wafers, but it is time consuming
to say the least. You can find you tube video about making cells if you
google it.

It's just an internet scam to separate people from their money.

2. I have to agree

Very few hardware stores even sell panels much less the stuff to make them.

Wind generators may be another story though.Any electric motor will produce power if you can get to turn faster than the nameplate RPM rating.It can be done but it isn't easy to do.

has some smaller wind and solar machines. I don't really understand the kwh part because it doesn't seem like enough to bother with to me, but maybe I'm not realizing how little it would take to generate enough power for just some light and a small refrigerator or something.

a fridge and a few lights.
6k will power most houses,minus big draws like electric heat/air.

Could probably accomodate the refrigerator plus a PC, a router, and a cable "modem".
