1. I agree with Warpy on the other post
the gauge has more to do with the power load than distance in a household application

with a hottub you want heavy wire, they are powerpigs (at least my old one was, the newer ones may be better)

2. oh this is old, but I got new guts for it
from spaguts.com no less! did you see that link philboy posted? that was exactly what I needed. apparently distance does make some kind of difference - when we first got the thing and we went to get the wire that was one of the first things the guy asked - how far away were we going.
