Dishwasher question.
My dishwasher is not even a year old. Yesterday when I ran it, water spewed out of the drain air gap. Is this a dishwasher problem? I'm thinking maybe there's a clog in the drain, although I'm able to run water down the sink with no problem.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

2. Its most likely a drain problem
Do you have a disposer? If so, you can do away with that air gap and hook the d/w drain directly to the disposer. All disposers come with an accessory nipple to connect the d/w hose. You also have to knock out a plug in the connection.

6. I do have a disposal, but I checked
there's no way to hook up the d/w directly to the disposal. Hook-ups on the dishwasher seem to be contained, (as I'd have to pull the dishwasher out of the cabinetry). The only hose going into the dishwasher is the air gap.

11. Yes, it is the air gap that gets eliminated when hooking the d/w to the disposer
The air gap is simply not needed. The hose that is now connected to the air gap gets disconnected at the air gap and reconnected to the disposer. All this can be done under the sink. The advantage is that it is less likely to clog than is the air gap. Plus any food matter that the dishwasher ejects goes through the grinder before it gets further in your house drain system.

12. Like Stinky says, there's a knock out plug in the Garbage Disposal
and the coolest thing is then when the air gap thingie is gone, you'll have a hole for a soap dispenser on the sink

soap dispenser's RAWK!!!

3. Could be food particles causing blockage
in the line between the drain and the aerator, most commonly causes that to happen. Would suggest you run that dish washer again, with no dishes in it after looking under your sink at those plastic see through lines . That would be a flush out the lines wash. Also look at the trouble shooting guide in your dish washer owners manual. If you can't find it, down load it through the manufacturer. Also there is a 800 help line offering free advice. The more you know the better.

7. There's still water in the
dishwasher from yesterday's attempt. If I turn it on, water gushes out of the air gap. Not too much help in the dishwasher guide.

Thank for you reply.

10. Call in an appliance service tech
Mr. Appliance, if it's in your area, can be good.

Sounds like a pump problem.

Also, go online to see if there are recalls/documented problems with your d/w model.

13. Sounds like the drain line for the DW is bunged up
Here's a pitcher of whut's (kinda) unner dere:

If you're getting water out the air gap, the line from there to the drain is clogged. :)

14. Thats the thing, if water is gushing out the
aerator than the pump works fine. Blockage than is causing that. Why not disconnect the side of the line that goes into the sink drain ,blow in it.Do that to find out where the blockage is. That feed line to the sink drain should be filled with water.
