Dyson Vac? Anyone have model DC07?

I have an old Dyson DC 14, have had good luck with it and talked my daughter into buying a Dyson DC07 just before she moved. The seller at a yard sale assured her it works but something is wrong.

When it is turned on, you can feel the suction at the end of the wand(handle cap) but if you try to operate the machine, it has no suction. I have taken it apart, washed the filter and checked for blockages. Nothing obvious. Anyone have this trouble and can send me in a direction that I might find the problem? She spent $100.00 on the machine with assurances that it worked. I feel badly because you can buy reconditioned ones for little more money. She has no extra $$ and neither do I to pay Vac shop to fix it.

I have taken everything apart, washed the filters, checked the hoses. What could be keeping the suction from coming out of the base? Any idea what I should look for?

1. I wonder if it is the mechanism that switches the suction from hose to floor.

You say you checked for blockage and didn't find any so it is a puzzlement.

We have the DC07.

The only other thing I can think of is the filter in the motor - the one they don't tell you about in the cleaning instructions. Ours kept cutting out as it was overheating due to the filter in the motor being clogged. You have to pry the housing open to get at this filter. We wouldn't have known about it unless we googled for dyson repair. I wish I could remember the site but I can't. I googled it again but I don't recall site we used. There are a bunch of sites.

2. Thanks for your reply. I watched a video of the replacement

of filters. Since I had already cleaned the pre-motor filter, I decided to look at the Hepa filter. Pried it off just as instructed. Looks pretty dirty.

I Googled replacement filter Dyson DC07 and found this(see link) Seems like a good buy, I may just replace all the filters.

The white wafer type filter that sits with the blue sponge looks pretty matted. I washed it 2 days ago and if I hold it to the light, it looks nasty. Maybe it is supposed to look that way.

What do you think of the price on amazon.com for all 3 parts? Should I just replace the white one? The blue sponge filter is now fine. Can't tell with the Hepa.

3. That seems like a good price.

Heck I'm going to pick up a set so I can swap out the filter while waiting for them to dry after cleaning ... and so I have a spare motor filter.

Ours started cuting out the other day - it wasn't the motor filter this time. It was the regular filter clogged with drywall dust :hide: So I got in trouble (again).
