faucets are sure fancy these days. which one do you like?

i have a fancy schmancy bathroom with a whirlpool and a beautiful big porcelain sink. right now i have this faucet-


but i have managed to chip up the disc, and it is starting to leak, so i am planning to replace it.
i do love the thing, but with that thin edge, i know i will just keep nicking it with the dog bowl like it did the current one.

so, here are a couple of the other coolio ones out there-



although this one is still glass, it stick out over the bowl a little less, and i think that thick edge will not chip quite as easily.

1. The middle one looks a little more user friendly to me

but I'm looking at it as somebody who has to clean, too, and I think glass is a pain in the ass. The bottom one would catch too many flecks from the toothbrush and need to be wiped down after every use.

Then again, a lot of modern design leaves me cold and I don't know what kind of sink arrangement you're pairing it with, so let your own aesthetic be your guide.

4. clean, clean, clean i remember something about clean

boy, it was so long ago....

seriously, a few spots on stuff doesn't even come up on my radar unless i am having a party. that happens about every 5 years. so, toothpaste spatters are not a consideration.

3. Boy am I in the design dark ages. If you did not tell me these

were faucets, I would never have known. They are certainly works of art. In my house they would look so wrong. I'm still in the stainless, hot-cold-left-right-do I have the right size washer age.

Given the age of this old place, a hand pump would probably look right at home.

I guess the middle one would be my choice if I moved to a modern, well appointed house.

5. my house is a mish mash. it is 100+ years old, but

doesn't have any gingerbread to speak of. most of the rehab we have done is simple, straight lines, but not really cold. this bathroom is tiled to within an inch of it's life, mostly a light peach and greys. a little cream marble trim. tub, sink and toilet are white.
there is definitely room for something over the top like that tall one. that's kinda the one that speaks to me. i would like to see it in person before i buy it, tho.

6. Here's a contrarian opinion

Although I like the look of the 2nd one the best, if I were putting in a new faucet for my permanent house (the one I saw myself retiring in) I'd put in an old-style, simple faucet with the separate hot/cold handles because all of these above have cartridges that will wear out and require replacement.

It's so much cheaper to replace a washer every 5 years or so than to replace one of those expensive cartridges.

7. The third one down, the one you call "moproof." Nice and compact, so it's easy

to clean, and you won't hit it so much with the dog bowl. (Dog bowl in the bathroom? Never mind, none of my business.)
The bottom one looks almost overly-dramatic, and has a lot more surface to wipe down and keep it looking good.
