Deck stain?

I have an old wooden deck which is in good shape. A couple of years ago I had it pressure washed and stained with some transparent Olympic stain. The stain color was gone in three months, max. The deck is in a very windy, full sun area near the ocean.

What's the word on deck care? Is there a stain that will last longer? I don't want an opaque stain. What kind of maintenance does the deck need?

It was the very best before they sold out. As I understand they are back up to par.

What you might do is get a consult where you buy yer stain. You want to discuss conditions rain,sun so fourth.
The salt is a major factor. How many days passed between pressure washing and staining ?

The thing about it is, there is a optimal time of year to do exterior deck staining. The deck must be completely dry which is why July,August is optimal.Two coats of stain is always recommended. Another thing is the stain that you used to stain that deck when it was first built. all stains are not compatible. That is why you need a consult.
If you are not re staining with the exact same product ,it is always a good idea to go a little darker with new product you are using.

Simply you got a bad batch of stain, or it was not compatible with the existing stain, or you had a lot of moisture in the decking-salt- so on.Sometimes the top of the decking boards are dry as can be-but underneith wet as it gets. Add salt in the air as it collects-and double the problem.

You need the best product you can get given your location and it has to be compatible with whats there,or Olympic-bear ly there.

Go over to home depot or any major paint & stain outlet and get a free consult. They will tell you exactly what you need to use and what you got to do to get it done right.

The hottest driest month of the year is the best time to do it !

The deck is thirty years old, and I didn't own the house at that time. Whatever stain was on it originally was long gone. I think they waited a few days for the deck to dry out before staining it.

I will try these suggestions. The guys didn't apply a second coat, so I'll keep that in mind too.
