Making pillowcases
I learned to make pillowcases the easy way at the Million Pillowcases Challenge site.
Here's the video for the "tube" method. http://www.allpeoplequilt.com/millionpillowcases/video/roll-it-up-video.html
I also found instructions for making one with the piping between the cuff and body of the pillowcase using the easy tube method here http://www.allpeoplequilt.com/millionpillowcases/video/roll-it-up-video.html

I made one for myself with the piping. It's hard to see the piping in the photo but it's green & cream gingham check. I made it narrower than the instructions and it was easy to sew. I also made French seams for the long side and bottom since I never tried that before.

Nice cotton pillowcases can be pricey but with a yard or so of fabric these are fun to make if you like to sew. All straight stitching.

1. i need to make flat cushion covers
Mr. K deconstructed the old queen 12 drawer pedestal and turned it into a 'window seat' in our guest room. i cut up the memory foam mattress topper and need to sew covers for it

i bet this would work well..... but instead of an open end, i'm thinking i need the 'flap in the middle' type

2. The flap in the middle kind would be easier than a zippered one, I bet
Easy to remove and clean.

What's so nice about learning to make different things these days are the many You Tube videos. I got some sewing machine feet and am determined to learn to use them. I've watched videos on a few over and over until I was comfortable with them and then it was much easier when I sewed with them the first time.

P.S. I just knew you would post a reply if I posted a sewing "DIY" show and tell. :hi: Happy Thanksgiving!

3. Second pillowcase using French seams to hide the insde stitching
These really go fast. But I'm going to thread up the serger so I can do the last two seams with it for my donated pillowcases. Then they'll even look store bought!
