Advice for designing mobile websites for smart phones

I think I've figured out a few things...

Keep it simple.

Scroll vertically, not horizontally.

Touch links.

I want a portrait display, thinking 480 pixels wide.

Anything else?

1. few things to consider

off the top of my head...

Layout in CSS.
Keep it very light on Images.
Use DIV and SPAN and avoid TABLE for layout.
Consider using XML or XHTML markup.
Allow for dynamic widths...Use percentages on block elements instead of a fixed pixel width and let the phone collapse or expand to available resolution.
