Here is a funny/pathetic story for ya'll
back home in SA, I was working as a cocktail waitress at a club. One of my co-workers a Caucasion girl, mentioned to me how much she HATED black/white couples. She said that her boyfriend felt the same way. He owned a car lot and if an interracial couple would come to their lot they would very rudely say they were closed as they did not do business with people like that....

ok here is the kicker: her boyfriend was her first cousin, yup thats right her first cousin....

I told her, wait a minute, your're screwing your first cousin and you've gone to see a geneologist to make sure if you have kids they are not born disfigured and you hate interracial couples? thats pretty stupid don't ya think?

I swear she did not get it. She thought it was ok to be living in incest but wrong to be in an interracial relationship..... don't know what ever happened to her.

1. Whaaaaat....? Oh. my. god.
:wtf: That's the craziest thing I've heard this week...! By SA, did you mean San Antonio? My dh and I have always said we have no reason whatsoever to ever go down to Texas. It seems whenever we are watching television and someone has a particularly intolerant and hateful point of view, come to find out they are somewhere in Texas. Or a few other places in the south and Midwest. No offense to anyone here in or from Texas.

You know that people like that, that think racial mixing is wrong were raised with that insanity. Just like they were raised and taught to believe it's fine to be involved with their first cousin. :puke:

2. That's a scary thought
that these attitudes are still the norm, rather than the exception, in the 21st Century. :(

4. Wow I grew up in San Antonio
I swear it becomes more and more conservative, intolerant and crazy every time I visit. Especially on the North side.

5. That must be hard...
to return to a place you grew up and not really recognize it. :( Sometimes I've wondered if Texas got a certain reputation, especially after having shrub govern there for a while. Now that he's the pResident and has been so vocal with his hate campaigns (women, gays, immigrants, etc.) maybe the more hateful have congregated there...?

Forgive me if this sounds completely retarded. :P I'm totally grasping at straws here. I honestly don't get how someplace would become less tolerant.

6. San Antonio is 60% Hispanic
but you still have your "Nascar Chicken Nuggets" (sorry) down there. Its actually the only county that Kerry carried in Texas.

10. San Antonio's a military town
So you have a lot of cultural elements moving in and out of the city.

You also have a lot of people who have relocated to S.A. due to the growing Fundie influence (John Hagee's church, Max Lucado's church).

AND S.A. is surrounded by rather redneck-ish counties (New Braunfels, anyone?).
