I don't know if this belongs here, but
if there are no dogs in heaven, I don't think I want to be there.

My dog died today. Her name was Emily. She was 14. She was a Lab mix, with a white bib and four white paws.

I miss her so much. I am miserable. I can't stop crying.

Now, I have to call my daughter in Mexico, and tell her that she did not even get to say goodbye to her dog.

1. Oh, Muriel - I am so sorry!
 I know how much love our furry friends give us (I am a mom to three cats). Emily sounds like she was very precious.

Of course this situation "belongs" here. Your beautiful doggie was a part of God's creation (and remember, when God created, s/he called everything "good"). You have lost a companion and friend.

Do dogs go to heaven? I believe they do. Somewhere, I have an e-mail that addresses this specifically. When I find it, I will post it here, and hope it will bring you comfort.

You are in my prayers. May God's peace give you comfort in your time of grief.

Ruth

4. Emily will meet you at the Rainbow Bridge.......
Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to some-
one here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows
and hills for all our special friends so they can run and
play together. There is plenty of food, water, and sunshine
and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who have been ill and old are restored to health
and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong
again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times
gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small
thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be
left behind. They all run and play together, but the day comes when
one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. Her/his bright eyes are intent; her/his eager body begins to quiver. Suddenly, he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, her/his legs carrying her/him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend
finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to
be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your
hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more
into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your
life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together...

5. I am very sorry for your loss..
peace to her little soul.

Here is an article written by a follower of St. Francis of Assisi,
the Catholic Patron Saint of Animals, which may bring you some comfort.

"Will I See My Little Doggy in Heaven?"

By Jack Wintz, O.F.M.

I almost lost my cat Yuri 3 times last month, once because of vet incompetence and then twice more when his weakened condition made it more difficult for him to respond to treatment for his original problem. He is home now after 2 weeks in the hospital. He is better, but I don't know if he is fully recovered.I still cry about it every day.
