re-asking: Liberal Christian TV and radio stations?
Edited on Tue Aug-23-05 09:01 PM by GreenPartyVoter
Are they out there? So far only Joel Osteen & NPR's "Speaking of Faith" have been recommended to me.

What about liberal ministers who "podcast" sermons on the web?

I am very much interested in finding these resources for myself and my site.

Also, would you consider contacting Sirius and XM radio? They have politically left, right, and moderate talk stations so they might considre doing so religiously. (I made of point of explaining that the bulk of what is out there for Christian broadcasting is anathema to theologically liberal folks.)

Thanks!

1. There is nothing about Joel Osteen
that is liberal. He may have a positive message but that does not make him a liberal. His ministry and that of his family is solidly rooted in the charismatic pentecostal word of faith tradition. That would put him in the same camp as Oral Roberts, Kenneth Hagin, Kenneth Copeland, Joyce Meyer, Rod Parsley, et al.

2. Yeah, I wound up putting him in the general resources section so
that more conservative Christians have something offered to them, but at least he is positive and upbeat. That's gotta better than Falwell/Robertson/Dobson...at least a little anyway.

3. I can't think of any. But Ann LaMott writes for Salon
occasionally, and you can find some of her written work online there. She is a great speaker, but I dunno if she has any stuff you can listen to online.

And you can find a few Tony Campolo speaking presentations on the web too -- he was a friend and spiritual adviser to Bill Clinton after Monicagate. He's not as liberal as I wish he were, but there's not much else out there that I know of. No radio or TV stations that I've heard.

Shame, isn't it?

4. Two suggestions on where to search:
http://www.sojo.net/
Sojourners website. I clicked on this link, under News:
http://www.sojo.net/index.cfm?action=news.alternative_media
That might get you started in your search.

http://www.umc.org - the website of The United Methodist Church.
This link: http://archives.umc.org/interior.asp?mid=551 takes you to a list of media centers in each jurisdiction. Click on your state, and contact the conference media center. They may have a listing of liberal Christian radio stations - or at least, a list of places where they currently advertise.
