Definitions of Fundamentalists, Orthodox, Evangelicals
This was in the GD forum today:

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=104x5262460#5263156

What do you think about the definitions of the categories put forth?

(I don't know if it is of any benefit to try to explain things to folks in the GD. The vast majority of them don't seem to care.)

1. I'm too lazy to repost, so I'll cut and paste:
Interesting analysis - but not quite that cut and dried.
I fall somewhere in the "Evangelical-Orthodox" mix. I am of the Wesleyan tradition. John Wesley was an Anglican Priest with high regard for the sacraments, who had a heart-felt experience.

When Methodism came to the States, it was already a bit of a mix. But certain regions of the country allied with one side or the other. I call Methodism the great chamelion religion, because our churches tend to mimic the dominant religion of the area.

Put in simpler terms, I am not as touchy-feely as many evangelicals, and not as anal-retentive as some high church fold. In my world, worship is central, and forms our outlook on life. When we gather, we worship God. And when we go into the world, we worship God by serving others and caring for the needy.

Glad you posted this - I would have missed it. I usually avoid these threads, because I do sometimes have problems with my blood pressure.

2. I think we need to draw a Venn diagram and put denominational names into
it.
