I am growing intolerant of Christian radio.
My husband & I took a road trip this weekend....we were tuning in and out of stations during the trip. My husband settled on a Christian station and we listened to John MacArthur for a while. THEN D. James Kennedy came on....that's when I found my teeth on edge. THEN there were POLITICAL ADVERTISEMENTS for Republican candidates. Mostly regarding stem cell research and abortion (surprise, surprise).

I can't handle Christian radio anymore. I seldom listen to it as it is but I really can't handle it now.

If anyone knows of a progressive Christian radio station that can be podcast or streamed, let me know.

I am fed up with how the religious right has destroyed Christianity in this country.

1. I'm at the point that if I hear the announcer say "Christian,"
I switch channels. :banghead:

At least Wisconsin Public Radio has some great classical music.

2. I've never listened to "christian" radio

Because down here, it mostly means "fundamentalist hate radio."

And, no surprise, it's mostly angry old white men preachers on these stations. These are people who are still angry that integration happened.

3. John MacArthur was tolerable

And generally I like Chuck Swindoll.

But D. James Kennedy is too much. I lost count of how many times he told his followers to get out and vote 'to save America.' :puke: He's like a Dobson wannabee.

I should check and see if Tony Campolo has a radio show. If he doesn't, perhaps he should consider getting one.

Edit: If you google "liberal Christian radio," Mike Papantonio's name comes up :D (in context of the "Jesus Camp" movie)

4. Here's some progressive Christian radio:
Tony Campolo's show:

http://www.tonycampolo.org/media.php

And on sites like www.oneplace.com, you can pick and choose the programs you want to listen to.

Salvation Army used to have a radio show called "Food for the Poor," but not any more. I wish Sojourners had a radio program.

5. I was taking care of some parishioners' dog
Edited on Mon Nov-06-06 07:43 PM by mycritters2
while they were at Mayo Clinic, one having tests, recently. A lesbian couple, joined our church after leaving a very conservative tradition. They still have close ties to much of that culture.

Their dog stayed at their house, which has a dog door and fenced yard, so he could come and go as he pleased. I and some others from church would stop in to check on him several times a day, and they left the radio on to keep him company. On a Christian station.

So, I'm there, filling the dog's dishes, playing with him, etc. when another parishioner calls. She asked if I'd be at the house for long, and nearly hurt herself laughing when I said "Being in the home of a lesbian couple and listening to 'family-friendly Christian radio' is giving me cognitive dissonance to the point that, if I stay here much longer, my head is going to implode".

I never listen to it, and it would have been an interesting cultural experience if I hadn't been in their home. Add that to the mix and....
