Especially if you're clergy.
Because this seems to be so wrong to me on so many levels. And here's why.
Long time ago I attended a megachurch of the charasmatic variety. There was a woman there who did not like me, and proceeded to tell the pastor and other church leaders about 'problems' that I had (that weren't true). She went to every leader in every ministry I was involved in to spread her lies. I ended up leaving the church because she was convinced that I was 'a practicing witch' and made no bones about telling everyone that. She even caught wind of whether I was attending another church, and would find congregants in THAT church and 'warn' the pastor at any church I was attending to not let me attend there, because I was 'under church discipline' at her congregation (again, not true).
Eventually I quit going to church for several years. To the best of my knowledge, no one ever questioned this woman to get to the bottom of her 'allegations.' They just let her spew. Apparently she continued to spread these lies even though I had moved out of town. When someone who knew me personally overheard her telling two congregants that she thought she saw me standing outside her house casting spells on her house, :eyes: they FINALLY told her (in front of her captive 'audience') that it wasn't true because I no longer lived there and hadn't been around for several years. (She reminds me a lot of the "Darksided!!! Tainted!!! Gargoyles!!!!" woman.)
So when I see something like THIS in New Life's Press Release, it gives me pause:
"....if anyone has factual, first-hand information regarding the spiritual health of this Church (sic), its ministers or ministries, they should report directly to the Overseers through the means provided on the Church's (sic) website.")
http://www.newlifechurch.org/db_images/247LeadershipTransition.pdfTo me, this seems like a sure-fire way to ensure church abuse.
