Can someone suggest a topic for my newsletter article?
My least favorite part of the job. At least with a sermon I have a text to preach. These things I have to just come up with. And my secretary wants it tomorrow.

Think, think, think...

1. Talk about a sermon
One of my favorite ministers whom I respect a lot and am very sad he's retiring because I will miss his newsletter articles, has pretty much always reiterated stuff from sermons and expanded on a specific point or two. Brilliant!

3. I thought of something
Some thoughts about Uncle Tom's Cabin, which the church book club is now reading--that Stowe was a Congregationalist, that our congregation was founded by abolitionists who broke with another local church that refused to take a clear abolitionist stand, stuff about our heritage of social justice. I think it'll work. Will also sneak in an invitation for newbies to come to book club.

But Rabrrrr (I can never remember how many rrrrrs), I will keep your suggestion in mind for future months. This comes around every month--and always stumps me! Thanks!

4. Good idea! It could even be a good idea for the whole year
to drag out important points of history in the UCC. So many UCC members are not UCC-from-birth, and I think most of them know that their local church is friendly but not much of the history, development, or past of the UCC and its predecessor bodies; and certainly know very little of the true importance of the UCC predecessors in weaving the tapestry of this nation from its birth as colonies, its formation as a country, through the Civil War and to today.

This is a good year to remind people of all the great stuff we've done in the past.

Such as from here:
