My update

You may remember I introduced myself back in June when I attended an Episcopal church and really liked it.

After three weeks, they asked me to join the altar guild. I guess they were pretty short on people. It fit into my schedule, so I accepted. Taking care of the "good things" and keeping everything clean and it its place is so the opposite of me. I'm an aging, hippie slob.

I really like helping out, and it's cool to learn about all the symbolic objects that are used in the eucharist. It's a gorgeous old (by West Coast standards) church. The congregation goes back to the 1870's, and the church was built in 1912.

So, after I'd been there three weeks, they showed me where they keep the keys to the silver. Talk about trust.

I'm so happy in this church. I look forward to Sunday mornings there. It's so peaceful and full of love. Only problem is I'll miss the blessing of the animals because I'll be stuck at home after surgery.

Here's the website. There are some cool pictures.

1. Looks like you're getting a new Rector.
Thanks for your update! I'm really glad you've found a place to call home. :)

2. We sure are
He seems great. I've met him. He has a gorgeous wife and two little girls as cute as the Obama girls.

I'm so bummed that about the time he starts I'll be having surgery and won't be able to participate in all the welcoming stuff.

4. Thanks
It feels good to help, and it makes the church feel ever more like my place.

6. I haven't been to those yet
I tend to be a homebody after 4:00, but I may get to evensong sometime.

This church is amazing. We sponsor a huge and lovely retirement home next door and a school on the other side. I still have to figure out how all that gets done.

The organ is from 1934 and sounds great (although it was broken last Sunday). The choir is small, but the sound is fantatic. I lose track of time when I enter the church, and the people are amazing.
