Ask an ex-Jehiova's Wittness.
I've seen some misconceptions in the time I've been lurking and wanted to have a chance to make things clear so I invite any questions on the matter. I no longer follow the JW faith but have enough knowledge to satisfy most questions about this poorly conceived protestant religion.

So, then, let's on with the questions

1. Really? I'm curious as to what "misconceptions" you've seen in this forum during your time lurking
here. I lurk here quite a bit and even post occasssionally. I can't seem to remember any thread that discusses Jehiova's (or Jehovah's for that matter) Witnesses.

I'm quite curious about these misconceptions, please do share more...

2. You don't answer a question with counter question.
The fact is many people don't understand the JW faith or have misconceptions about it. It's second only to the Mormons in their internal secrecy and animosity. If you have a question about the faith I'd love to try to answer it but just demanding examples of misconceptions from me won't solve anything. I'm neither defending or attacking this site, I'm using or the exchange of ideas - as it was meant to.

So, do you have any relevant questions I can help answer?

3. I share 54nickel's question as well - what misperceptions have you seen here?
I read and post here somewhat regularly (in this forum) and at DU very regularly, and I remember few if any discussions ever popping up about the JW.

I, too, am curious to what misperceptions you have seen here.

thanks anyway.

6. Thats all was looking for.
Some people enjoy discussing religion, I'm having a bible study with two mormons this afternoon. Keep in mind, this is the Religion and Spirituality group.

7. You might want to read our group statement:
(it's pinned at the top of the forum)

"The DU Christian Liberals/Progressive People of Faith Group is for Christians and Christian-friendly persons who would like to have an open discussion about our faith and its role in the world around us. Our group will provide a safe haven for discussion and support, and find ways to express our beliefs in positive, non-threatening ways. Group members agree to an open forum, welcoming all progressive faiths and other open-minded people. By participating, we agree that we will not engage in proselytizing or denigrating other religions or non-believers."

I, too, wonder where you have seen misconceptions about Mormons in THIS group.

8. Oh, I think I see the disconnect. The Religion and Spirituality Group is an overall

category that is further subdivided into different group forums:

Ancient Wisdom and Pagan Spirituality Group
Astrology, Spirituality & Alternative Healing Group
Catholic and Orthodox Christian Group
Christian Liberals/Progressive People of Faith Group
(that's this forum)
Jewish Group
Muslim/Islam Group
Prayer Circle Group (non-denominational)
Seekers On Unique Paths Group

Perhaps you saw those "misconceptions" you mentioned over in the Religion/Theology Forum found over here (or some other forum). Or maybe you meant you've encounter misconceptions about "JWs" outside of DU altogether. I just found it difficult to imagine that you would have come across any misconceptions alluded to in your OP in this particular forum that you chose to post in.

I'm afraid you won't find much interest in that sort of discussion in this particular forum...
1) There's no audience here for that type of discussion, partly because...
2) It's against the forum rules (as quoted in post #7)
3) It is not the purpose nor intent of this forum

The Religion/Theology Forum would probably eat it up, but you'll need to be thick-skinned over there. I'm not sure where else on DU to suggest you might find more interest in your discussion. Plenty outside of DU, just can't think of any here...

edit to add:

mdmc tried a similar post in R/T with regards to Catholicism. I think he did a great job of "moderating" the discussion.

10. Your welcome. However, it was not offered as advice, but as a clarification for my earlier reply
stating I had no (what you would consider) "relevant" questions for you.

I was also hoping it would explain why I was so puzzled by your inference of having seen misconceptions of other belief systems here, in this forum.

I merely suggested where you might find more inquisitive interest (since you seem to be seeking questions more than discussion).
