She was the wife of the now quite famous Joe Stack. When I joined my small church, Sheryl was the choir director - the single mother of a beautiful little girl, struggling to get her Masters in music and support her child. She is a very loving and caring woman. She eventually got a much better paying job with the Catholic diocese in their music department, but she continued as a member of Berkeley United Methodist. I hadn't had much recent contact with her but then we connected again on Facebook.
This weekend, something amazing took place. The Greater Mount Zion Church where IRS victim Vernon Hunter and his family attended, joined the Berkeley Methodist Church in a musical benefit for Sheryl and Margeau.
Reading the posts of people who did not know either of the families while ABC news was hacking her Facebook and trying to contact me and her other friends was hard. There is no doubt that Joe Stack was absolutely crazy and I am thankful daily that his original plan to burn the house with his wife and stepdaughter inside did not happen. I never formally met him and his sickness is not mine to judge.
These two churches coming together was an amazing spiritual event that could teach nations about peace and healing. Here's a link with pictures of the event.
I hope that some of you will take the time to look at them as, to me, this is the face of all that is still good in the world. I have no secret in-side information and I'm not here to speak of the tragedy, only the healing. The first is pictures and the second is great media coverage.
