Found this book in an article posted in R/T and thought some of us might be interested too. Being an extreme introvert, I'm always looking for books on the subject and learning how to educate extroverts about how to get the best out of me and other introverts.
I left my last church, in part, because of the constant pressure to be social (from my POV). There was one guy who, I'm not kidding, made a SPREADSHEET, listing everybody's activities for the year. How many times they participated. Ugh. In all fairness, it was to be an aid to making the annual report to the Presbytery. But ugh, it felt way too intrusive to me, Mercifully, I don't think it ever went anywhere.
Introverts are called and gifted by God. But many churches tend to be extroverted places where introverts are marginalized. Some Christians end up feeling like it's not as faithful to be an introvert.
Adam McHugh shows how introverts can live and minister in ways consistent with their personalities. He explains how introverts and extroverts process information and approach relationships differently and how introverts can practice Christian spirituality in ways that fit who they are. With practical illustrations from church and parachurch contexts, McHugh offers ways for introverts to serve, lead, worship and even evangelize effectively.
Introverts in the Church is essential reading for any introvert who has ever felt out of place, as well as for church leaders who want to make their churches more welcoming to introverts.
