I received this in a message from Dennis Kucinich today and I thought some here might be interested in this

Network of Spiritual Progressives Kick-Off Conference July 20-23

The Spiritual Activism Conference, to be held in Berkeley, CA and sponsored by the Tikkun Community, among others, is intended to help build an organization to counter reactionary thought in America, and to revitalize voices for peace, human rights, love and compassion. Organizing goals include:

* Stopping the appropriation of God by the religious right;
* Building an alliance between secular, religious and spiritual but not religious progressives; and
* Developing a new bottom line that champions love, caring, social justice and ecological sanity over money and power.

Speakers are expected to include Rabbi Michael Lerner (editor of Tikkun), Jim Wallis (editor of Sojourners and author of God's Politics), John Shelby Spong (former Episcopal Bishop), Sylvia Boorstein (Buddhist teacher), Mary Elizabeth Moore, Riane Eisler, Joan Borysenko, Van Jones, David Korten, Michael Nagler, Sheikh Kabir Helminski, John Cobb, Arun Gandhi (grandson of the Mahatma), Carl Pope (chair of the Sierra Club), Welton Gaddy (chair of the Interfaith Alliance), Jeffrey Kuan, Rita Nakashimi Brock, Rabbi Rami Shapiro, Members of Congress Lynn Woolsey and Jim Moran, Ched Meyers, Osagyefu Uhura Sekou and many others with a broad range of spiritual perspectives.

Check online for conference details and a complete list of speakers.

2. You are taking the CA Bar exam????
Waa-hoooo!!! Congratulataions to you! Gosh I didn't know you had that coming up. Best of luck to you.

Study hard now. My sister took it a few years back. Gosh I hope all goes well for you, we NEED lawyers like you!

I'm gonna be a strict mom now and say "quit spending so much on on DU now, go STUDY!"

Seriously... be prepared. I hope you do VERY well!

and then... once you've passed the bar, what are you gonna do?

3. Thanks. Just saw the post. LOL!
Yep, I'm a middle-aged mom who graduated a year ago.

I have a confession to make; this will be my third try. But I am FINALLY getting it. I have a bar-exam tutor now.

Some people are taking it 5-6 times! It's getting ridiculous out here in Cal.

I just got a job as a law clerk, after I take the test. They will hire me on as a lawyer after I pass.

I'm studying, Ma - about 6 hours a day! Some kids study for 14, but that's too much for me.

I'm going into Defense - Civil Law; maybe a little family law.

I was a social worker, and some of my pals from way back when hired me.

I unofficially retired as a social worker about a year after we were blessed with Beloved Daughter.

After 5 years in the house, even though I have been studying law, I'm ready to get out into the world again.

4. As a very wise person told me...
the true key to success is persistence... what's important is that you keep at it till you pass, then a whole new world opens for you.

Congratulations to you! With your background in CRS & UU along with your education, you have a potential to do much good in the world. And lots of years left to do so.

5. Thanks. Your are kind, and your words are heartwarming.
One thing I am is persistent.

Take care!
