"The Power of Now" by Eckhart Tolle
Has anyone read this book? Care to offer any opinions?

I heard lots of good things about it when it came out, but don't remember now what they were. This weekend at a friend's house, a copy was lying out and I browsed it a bit. My impression was that it seemed pretty good and useful and maybe inspirational.

1. I loved it....
I was reading it with my partner (now my ex) at the time and it really generated wonderful discussions and realizations. I highly recommend it.

2. Thinking about going to a workshop partially based on this book
NYC Open Center is having a workshop this Fall with Nancy Napier, who's written a couple of books. Maybe I'll check out the book first.

3. it is about a "Personal" experience, he did a pretty good job of relating

it but i think it may have been due to "Unique set of Circumstances" ..unique to him.

not that we cant also learn from it.

My personal opinion is that it is a German perspective of Buddhism... without the Dharma: specific practice: the instruction manual.

Zen might relate.. spontaneous enlightenment without the details.
which is very very very rare.. even among monastic zen monks who practice and meditate all the time and also have an enlightened master.

but i find any new information interesting.. But i wasn't motivated to stray from Buddhism.. although he uses some of its consepts and language. ...simpler isn't always better.

4. I agree with the others
Buddhism with modern techniques. I do find myself using his "practicing the power of now" every once in a while.

7. I got it for Xmas
But I prefer the old masters to the new ones.

I have some real personal questions about the state of bliss that these guys all seem to be trying to find.

Not much really new in Zen for a a thousand years or more.
