I hope to be a part of something like this sometime, because I'm so anxious about what's happening in the world and I'm starting to have a real crisis of faith.

I felt depressed about the recent studies on prayer. But it's still my hope that we can affect the world through our individual and collective prayer (or meditation, or however one chooses to view it).

2. One of the talks I went to was about prayer

And yes, the speaker said, there have been a few studies that show prayer ineffective-however they are outweighed by others that show the effectiveness of prayer. Personally, I would want to know the people who conducted this most recent study; if they were "anti prayer" their very thoughts and attitudes could have swayed the outcome. That is the power of mind. It is very similar to the "placebo effect", where people in studies are given a sugar pill and told it will ease pain, cure depression, etc-in many studies, the placebo effect shows up to be as great or nearly as great as taking the actual medicine. The speaker said that this again showed the power of mind. I trust this speaker-she is an MD and has been on the board of the Holistic Medical Association, and uses the power of the Mind in her practice.
