Yesterday, I attended my first Universal Unitarian Service.

It was fine. I found myself in agreement with many things that were shared by the "pastor" (?) It did feel a little different because I have never been to a service like this before. Been to church a hundred times.

At this point in my life I am really not sure what I believe anymore. I am starting some research on the origins of the bible and christianity. I want to come from place of truth which unfortunately has been lacking throughout my life. I am sick and tired of history revionsionism(if that is a word), political spin, and religious fairy tales. I want to have a spiritual self that comes from being informed and continuing to seek truth in my life.

I am going to be picking up a book I ordered, hopefully today, named "The Secret History of the Bible". That is a book, after researching many books on the subject, where I will begin my search for truth.

Any guidance would be appreciated.

I started going to a UU church a little over a year ago, and love it. I've found my spiritual home, there's no doubt. I love the learning, the seeking, and especially, the people. I've met the most amazing group of people there.

UUism definitely encourages exploration - mental and spiritual. It's not the place for one who wants 'the answers' - if you are a seeker, it may be a very good fit.

That book sounds interesting...I'm going to put it on my reading list! :hi:

2. Also consider getting the book

The history of God, written by a former Nun (whose name escapes me atm)

It goes into great detail about 4 biggest religions. Judaism, Islam, Christianity, and a bit about Buddhism (what got me turned on researching Buddhism).

It's interesting and goes from a place of historical accuracy without any mythology.

3. Karen Armstrong

Karen Armstrong is the author. Nitpick: It's "A History of God."

She has written numerous books, generally about religious history. Some noteworthy ones include "The Battle for God" and "In the Beginning: A New Interpretation of Genesis."
