Hi, Going to a buddhist temple for the first time

I am trying as hard as possible to avoid the ugly American sterotype. Any tips? I like these people a lot and feel honored they invited me, but I am almost nopt wanting to go for fear of offending someone.

1. Do you know which tradition the Temple is?

That might help in some pointers (For instance some cultures have distinct rules as to how a Monk is to be approached by women etc). I would not be scared of offending anyone though - if you do something that is not the norm someone will kindly let you know.

2. I don't know much about actually visiting the temples.

Other than the fairly obvious, like no cameras rolling, etc.

3. Typically...

When you enter the Temple , it is customary to bow and enter with your left foot leading. Traditionally, women bow from the waist with hands crossed in front, and men bow from the waist with hands at their sides. Your back is kept straight during the bow.

4. In most temples I have attended

One always removes their shoes, at least that is the Japanese tradition. I am sure it must carry over to others, perhaps.
