Shhhhhhhhh.....

From Eckart Tolle's book, Stillness Speaks -

Embracing and practicing inner stillness is no longer a luxury, he writes, "but a necessity if humankind is not to destroy itself. At the present time the dysfunction of the old consciousness and the arising of the new are both accelerating. Paradoxically things are getting worse and better at the same time, although 'the worse' is more apparent because it makes so much noise."

--

Silence is a priveleged entry into the realm of God and into eternal life. There is a huge silence inside each of us that beckons us into itself, and the recovery of our own silence can begin to teach us the language of heaven. For silence is a language that is infinitely deeper, more far-reaching, more understanding, more compassionate, and more eternal than any other language....There is nothing in the world that resembles God as much as silence. -- Meister Eckhart

--

I wish to remain in the Silence
with the sunlight streaming in

never alone
ever in the presence of
the lover within all lovers

who lives within
after every other lover
leaves.

-- Rumi

Be still and know that I am God. (Psalm 46:10)

1. The responses have certainly been 'silent'
I'm under the impression that few truly understand what silence is. How important it is. I'm glad you brought this up. And to add to this-

Matter collapses under its
relentless gravity,
then is pulled back together,
forming drifting clusters of stars
and a myriad galaxies.

The universe expands
from its explosive darkness
into infinity
with the same indifferent power
it designs emptiness and space.

There is really no need
to fill every breath,
every quiet moment,
every uncomfortable feeling
with the inexorable and tedious
chatter of the mind.

Insight appears when least expected,
if I just let things crumble
under their own weight,
and wait
and listen to the space they leave,
the unfathomable wisdom they shape
with the sound and depth of silence

2. Love that - "...no need to fill every breath, every quiet moment, every uncomfortable feeling..."
"Listen to the space they leave". Yes, those all important spaces between the notes.
Who wrote that?

Letting go and surrendering or "letting things crumble".

4. Maybe some of you saw the 20/20 interview with Gabrielle Giffords and her husband.
It was the first interview since the Congresswoman was shot at an event in Arizona.

Her recovery has been deemed "a miracle" by her doctors. The interview revealed so much love and
faith within their whole family that embraced and carried them through this unthinkable test.
There was one beautifully poignant statement by Gabby's mother when she replied to a question about
her own experiences on the day of her daughter's shooting.
She said as she heard the news and began rushing to get to her daughter from Texas, fear and panic
began to grip her. Then quite out of the blue she 'heard' a voice say, "Be still and know that I
am God", and almost immediately she began to relax into an inner peace, knowing that she and Gabby
were in God's hands.

So powerful..that inner peace that comes with surrender and acceptance... a feeling of
being in but not of the world as we connect with that infinite source of love in the universe.
The world may seem in chaos, the ground beneath us may be shifting, and yet we can be fully present
in abiding peace and love. In fact, as Tolle says, we must find that inner, still place of
connection.
