Anyone here done or read about Feng Shui?
I've been interested in this lately. As I understand it, there are two main practicing groups: a modern, Westernized sect called "Black Hat," and the traditional Feng Shui practice.

From what I gather, the traditionalists feel that the Westernized version is not real Feng Shui or may not work. Is this right?

Thoughts?

1. flow of chi
like in Tai Chi is what feng shui is about. I've been in Chinese restaurants that practice it, and the energy is different from other places.

The only thing I know about it is that one shouldn't have doors opposite one another, and that mirrors strategically places can help keep from having energy blockages.

3. Thanks! I found this summary of the types of Feng Shui...
http://www.bellaonline.com/articles/art28719.asp

It lists 4 types. I hadn't heard of the first ("Intuitive"), and the fourth, "Form," I've only heard of in conjunction with "Compass."

This excerpt describes the two I was talking about:

...

Black Hat Sect Feng Shui

Commonly called "Black Hat feng shui," or "BHS feng shui," this is one of the most popular forms of feng shui, especially in the USA. Developer Thomas Lin Yun combined traditional feng shui with concepts borrowed from Buddhism and Taoism. He simplified the design guidelines, and discovered immediate success when he applied them.

The Black Hat school uses a traditional nine-section grid to assign design principles within a home or office. Instead of using compass directions, BHS feng shui starts with the location of the main door to a room or building, and organizes design elements relative to that.

Compass School

Also called "Traditional School," the Compass School is thousands of years old. It uses the Eight Trigrams of the I Ching and other important tools to determine the innate flow of energy in a home or office.

As the name suggests, the Compass School relies on compass directions--and calculations using 24 subdirections--to determine the best design concepts for each area of a room or a building.

5. Here's an example of what I was talking about...
This person feels that the Black Hat sect is not "real" Feng Shui. (I don't have any opinion on this, just giving the info.)
