Spirituality/Healing Connection

Many have heard of hands on healing, such as is seen on TV evangelist shows. Often these "healings" are pooh-poohed-it is said that the people "healed" are actually caught up in the emotional moment. I don't know if anyone has done follow up to find out if these healings have any lasting power.

I have not been near any of those types of healings, but I have been present for other types. They were not televised, and were done either in private or within a subdued atmosphere. This includes healing during an inipi, during the Dances of Universal Peace, and during an Entertropic Therapy session. One thing that I have found to be true is that there appears to be a link between healer and the one being healed-an energy force that I can't quite describe. Another thing I've noticed is that healing occurs on many levels-physical, astral, emotional, and spiritual.

I am not interested in hearing from those who think the whole concept of healing via spiritual means is rot. You are entitled to your opinions. I am interested in hearing from others who may have had healing experiences.

1. The link between the healer and the healed...

I have read this about Reiki.

It is a topic I am very interested in and would also love to hear more about from people who have experienced it.

I have come to believe that healing has many components; the physical is definitely one, but there are mental and spiritual components as well.

I find meditation healing, possibly for all of these reasons, though I don't have personal experience with the types of healings you mentioned.

2. I agree.

There's a whole course in 'Mind-Body Connection' in Church of Religious Science.

Unlike some belief systems (faiths), we do believe in going to doctors and availing ourselves of normal, recommended healthcare.

BUT, I do believe that at least an equal part of getting well, or achieving health, or overcoming a medical condition involves a positive mental attitude, support from loved ones, and meditation and creative visualization (and affirmative prayer).

Many members of my CRS congregation practice Reiki - but that's just another thing I'm putting on the list to learn about.

5. My doctor

is also a healer and a mystic, and uses creative visualization, Reiki, Entertropic Therapy, and other methods to help people heal. I think it is neat that she is also an MD, because if you have to go the prescription route, she can write scripts. There's a whole group of healers around here, called Ozark Research Institute. I've been to one of their Power of Thought Schools, and watched (and participated) in a hands-on healing. What I've found is that one gets into a different space when healing takes place.

7. You are so lucky

to have such resources as your MD and your Ozark Research Institute available to you, as well as your native American, shamanic, and Sufi resources. I wish I could find an MD like that!

I've had a varitey of hands-on healing experiences, both as a giver and a recipient. One time, about 20 years ago or so, I was in NY (which I only mention because one HAS to do a lot of walking in NY) and something happened to my foot or ankle causing me to have some trouble walking. Very shortly after a session with someone who did some work that involved "energy balancing" of the chakras, the pain dissipated. Another time, about 10 yrs ago, I had a problem with my ankle. A person who did healing work with magnets did a short session on it, and it clear up very quickly also. For a number of years I worked with a group who did the same type of energy balancing I mentioned above - while I can't report any actual dramatic instantaneous healings, we had some remarkable results. Most of these showed up over a period of time in someone's life.

It seems to me that the "healing energy" is just sort of "out there" in the Universe and that what effective healers do is open themselves to the energy and sort of allow it to flow through them. Effective healers will tell you that it's not them that does the work - it's God or an energy working through them that does the work. I agree with that. Working with a group who have the capacity to channel healing energy can create a powerhouse of energy - it's REALLY nice (to say the least!).

3. You know ...

when I got an ovarian cyst, I really didn't want to have surgery (or for it to be cancer). The doctor went along with my trying to use birth control pills (taking hormones); this works to shrink the cyst (if it is benign).

Well, I started doing that 'creative visualization,' affirmative prayer (spiritual mind treatment is another term for it in our church), and meditation.

Next visit, the doctor told me it had shrunk to essentially down to nothingness. So, I didn't have to have surgery. And I haven't had symptoms for a year and a half.

You can believe it was the medication. You can believe it was my spiritual effort. Or you can believe it was a combination.

This is a wonderful acknowledgment of your ability to bring your mind-body into alignment, it's a wonderful success for you. I love hearing stories like this because it's such a powerful affirmation of the abilities we have that we don't know that we have. Kudos to you!


I had a similar success story way back in 1976-77 when I had a bout with cancer. I also used affirmations and visualization, and also therapy after all the medical procedures. My poor medical team at UCLA really didn't know what to do with me, I tried to take so much responsibility for my illness and treatment. They managed to convince me that no the infected glands needed to come out so at last I agreed to the surgery - and the glands all biopsied negative. It was a fairly serious condition but it's been almost 30 years now... so in my eyes, I healed it.

6. I know you did!

You sure showed a huge amount of courage then - because then, if I'm not mistaken, they didn't support a person very much in doing this. But you did it anyway.

That's the thing - knowing that you can impact something like that with the power of your mind - it is an awesome responsibility. It means that I (and you) have to spend some time mentally treating for health, so-to-speak (some time thinking/visualizing on it).

Makes me realize I have to take some 'meditation/visualization' time and think/articulate how I want things to go down.

It's a responsibility!

8. I left a post to your other post

but maybe I have a little more to say in reply to this post.

One time, about 20 yrs ago, I went to a healing service in NY at Madison Square Garden by a Catholic priest/healer. Tens of thousands of people were there. I watched people go forward on crutches and leave the stage walking without them, and other examples of dramatic healings.

Were they real? I didn't know at the time and I don't know at this time.

What I do know is that healing comes from within and that the mind, body, emotions and spirit are interconnected - and that for a true healing to occur, it must occur on all levels. I think that a healing on one level CAN trigger healing on other levels but not necessarily.

A physician can heal a symptom in the body, but if the root of the symptom is not healed in the mind/spirit realms, it can come back (I don't want to necessarily say "will," because an issue can manifest in the physical world in a variety of differnt forms). I don't think there are any real rules about it - a healing in the spirit can cause a healing in the physical and also a healing in the physical can result in a healing of the spirit, mental or emotions. We're all different and out illnesses and symptoms are each our own and unique, and each healing path is unique. What works for one might or might not work for another.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that I believe that there is such a thing as healing energy and there are many tools, techniques and ways to access and channel the healing energy.
