Do you have any other ideas for peaceful things that progressive spiritual people can do?

Protestant groups urge Frist to drop out of 'faith' telecast

<snip>

On Friday, the National Council of Churches was to sponsor a conference call with journalists to denounce Frist's participation in the telecast, sponsored by Christian conservative organizations to build support for Frist's proposal.

Among those speaking on the call will be Clifton Kirkpatrick, a top official of the Presbyterian Church USA. "One of the hallmarks of our denominations is that we are an ecumenical church," Kirkpatrick said in an interview Thursday. "Elected officials should not be portraying public policies as being for or against people of faith."

Judicial fight heads to church

Conservative Christian leaders will be in Louisville next weekend for a national telecast in which they plan to accuse Senate Democrats of blocking "people of faith and moral conviction" from being confirmed as federal judges. <It's being called "Justice Sunday" - wildflower>

Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist will join the telecast through a four-minute videotaped speech, his spokesman said, a move that has prompted criticism from many Democrats.

Organizers said the April 24 event will be taped at Highview Baptist Church and simulcast to more than 1,000 churches and a million "values voters" nationwide, in hope of rallying support for dropping a Senate rule that has allowed Democrats to block 10 of President Bush's judicial nominees.

2. Christians fighting back
If you read the thread in GD from an article in Sojourners, you know that a small Christian college in western Michigan let Bush have it with both barrels, figuratively speaking. Rove arranged for Bush to speak at commencement exercises; the day before, about a third of the faculty signed a letter published in the local paper denouncing the use of Christianity for political purposes. A sizable number of graduates wore "God is neither Republican or Democrat" on their gowns the next day.
