3. I cover a LOT of ground!
But let's see here:

I love progressive rock first and foremost. That's bands like Yes, Genesis, Renaissance, Rush and many others which formed in the late 60s and 70s. My namesake, Gentle Giant, were one of the most brilliant and experimental bands ever! And then there are countless neo-prog bands from the 90s and today who were inspired by the first generation of prog bands. These would include Echolyn, Land of Chocolate and others. Finally, there is progressive metal, which is like prog rock, only it's... metal! If you've ever heard of Dream Theater, Mars Volta or Between the Buried and Me, then this would be what I'm referring to. Some of it is also classified as "math rock" because the patterns in the music are extremely complex and quick.

Top-40 radio was my lifeline and my sanity from about 1978 until it went completely to crap - to me, anyway - around 1987. I had either the radio on, or a Walkman knockoff with me just about every moment of the day during that time. My favorites from back then include Duran Duran, Human League, Toto, Chicago, Chaka Khan, and all those really quirky one-hit wonders from back then like Taco, Falco, Murray Head (who did One Night in Bangkok, and lots of others.

I also like a lot of techno, industrial, classical, and ambient music, too. :)
