"Birdwatchers rushed excitedly to see a swallow that hasn't been seen in Britain for 20 years - then got a nasty surprise when eaten by a hawk in front of their eyes."

so - at what exact moment does the bird become uncountable?

1. I knowit!
The article focuses on the disappointment of the people who were there and saw it eaten.

I bet that's *nothing* to the disappointment of the people who showed up 5 minutes late.

2. That brings to mind the ex, feeding birds in my back yard...
A sparrow was almost in her hand when a red tail hawk swooped down and grabbed it. He was comfortable around us, and I suppose he thought she was baiting it up for him.
