Got a new camera!
My dad gave me a Nikon D40x DSLR for my birthday last week. I've been fiddling with it and have started to get some bird photos I'm not totally ashamed of:

1. Very nice camera...congratulations
Now if you are like me you will begin a never-ending quest for bigger and longer lenses especially if you are a birder. :)

2. fortunately (or unfortunately), my budget constraints will forestall that
I'll be at 200mm for a long while, since I need to get rid of some hefty debts before I can buy myself any more lenses. Plus, then I'd have to choose between a larger lens or a better pair of bins...

here's a couple more images from this past weekend:

3. Nice shots
I have yet to get a decent shot of any swallow. Egrets are notoriously difficult because of the white feathers. It is hard to get the right exposure. You did very well! I especially like the Canada Warbler!

4. I must have canned about 50 warbler shots!
I have a whole new appreciation for people like Lillian Stokes who get those great shots!

7. There is a scope converter that Nikon makes
but it's $300 and out of my budget for now. Still, a much better deal than shelling out a couple thousand for a big lens.

8. You should try and get over here to Ohio in May sometime
And get up to Magee Marsh. I had FOUR woodcocks there on May 26th, all of them less than 20 feet away, and three about 10 feet away and clearly visible...
