I just got a bird call book for Christmas weee!

I occasionally have different sounding owls around on summer nights. I probably do now too, but my windows are closed.

If I identify the sound but never actually see the bird, do I get to count it in my life list, or is that cheating?

Think about the empidonax flycatchers - how are you going to identify an Alder or a Willow Flycatcher if you don't hear it sing?

And you could go for years without ever actually seeing a nightjar.

And then there's Yellow Rail...
