Okay, what did I do wrong?

I tried my hand at making my own bird cakes. I used bacon grease, chunky pb, raisins, soynuts, uncooked oatmeal, and a good birdseed blend. I kept it in the freezer for 3 or 4 days (the weather was warm here for a bit around the holidays). I put the cake out at the feeder last week and nobody seems to be impressed! Any ideas?

3. Sounds like the kind I've made, except I used cornmeal

instead of oatmeal. The birds came and pecked on the window when it ran out. Seriously, the wrens sat around the back porch and fussed, but they really didn't peck on the windows.

4. Birds are on my suet spring, summer and fall but

mysteriously disappear once it gets cold. The suet is store bought, the peanut variety. Usually it attracts Woodpeckers, Titmice, Wrens and a variety of unwanted birds like Starlings, even squirrels. Winter after winter the new suet cake is uneaten until it starts to warm up. Your guess is as good as mine.

5. Update.

After the last store bought cake was gone, the birds have been happily dining on my homemade one. I'll try the cornmeal idea with my next batch. Thanks to all who replied and happy birding! :hi:

6. Next time, you could go and get actual suet, too, from the butcher
