FOS Painted Bunting for this spring and summer
along with Western and Eastern Kingbirds. Tons of scissor tailed flycatcher as well. I have also been seen large flocks of upland sandpipers and lesser yellowlegs as they push north during migration. I love the painted buntings though!

1. I'm jealous!
I've never seen a Painted Bunting in the wild....It's been on my list of must see birds for decades. Even when I lived in TX, I never saw one :-(.

2. Here is a very suburban pic of one that I took on Sunday of this
week. I plan on trying to get more images with the PB in a more natural, rustic environment if at all possbible. This is from the N. Texas area. Here it is feeding on the seeds from some recently mowed grasses.

4. Gorgeous and unmistakable!
:hi: Thanks for posting this. I lived in Houston from 1980-1982. We took several trips out to Big Bend NP and our favorite weekend getaway was in Luling to canoe the San Marcos River. We were always on the lookout for Painted Buntings. They are my favorite bird :-).

5. Painted Bunting is (or was) one of our prime target birds for Florida
I'm going on a week-long birding trip to florida in less than two weeks. Painted Bunting was a big target, but our leader isn't so sure now that we might be able to find it.

I've only seen them as cage birds in Mexico.

6. We are lucky in Texas especially the central and western sections
to have this wonderfully colorful bird here in the spring and summer. I will post more pics when I have them. Florida would be a stretch for them, but anything with wings has the possibility of showing up anywhere. :)
