1. The Bolivar Peninusla and Galveston
were obviously hit hard with much destruction. I can only hope that the birds vacated the area before being swamped by the winds. It came through some prime birding areas just like Rita did a few years back up the coast. I feel for the people and animals.

2. Maybe this time the local communities will wake up and ban development on barrier islands
Don't know if that will happen, but it might help out the people who lost their homes if the government bought their property and managed the barrier islands as, well, barriers (with the added bonus of restoring them as wildlife habitat).
