A Kodak moment at a SC beach. I was sitting on the beach last week and look who came up behind me.

I don't remember seeing pelicans at SC beaches as a child and young adult (1950's-1970's). But in recent years I've seen lots of them.

Have they made a spectacular comeback, or just come to SC in recent decades?

You didn't see them in the 50s-70s because they were one of the species most effected by the overuse of DDT.

It's probably looking for hand-outs. And yes, the brown pelicans have made a huge comeback. They are present all over the Gulf Coast and I would assume everywhere else.
