I need some help with identifying a new bird that I saw in my yard yesterday.
I've looked in my not very comprehensive bird books and searched online, but can't find it.

It was a small, wren sized bird, dark on top, yellow shading to white on breast and belly with a black mask around the eyes. It was a beautiful little bird and one I've never seen before. It was flitting around in the honeysuckle vines on a gloomy day and I never got a really clear look at it so the description I gave is about all I have. It wasn't a goldfinch nor was it my resident wren, although it was a similar size.

1. Sounds like this:
Common Yellowthroat

A nice little warbler that likes shrubby areas, so it fits with your honeysuckle vines.

2. I believe that's it. I hope they are nesting nearby and visit again.
I also saw an oriole in the maple tree across the street where I saw a nest hanging last year after the leaves fell. Hopefully, they will use the same tree this year. I saw the brown thrashers for the first time yesterday, too, and I think the catbird is back.
