Just added bird number 304 to my Ohio list -White Ibis!

Went out with a couple of buddies to an obscure little wetland about an hour and a half outside Columbus, where a juvenile White Ibis had been reported. Sure enough, there it was! Pretty cool little spot too - along a derelict set of RR tracks. Had about 40 species of birds there in about an hour and a half of birding. A good way to spend a summer evening, I'd say.

Any weird post-breeding dispersal migrants to report from anyone else?

1. That must be a nice bird to stake out.

Some Bush lawyer once argued that bombing a seabird breeding site should make birders happy because rare birds are more special (I'm not kidding, and it's not a Snopes thing).

I never get tired of White Ibis, even in a part of the country where the birds act like crows and pigeons around outdoor eating areas. But every now and then, I wonder how cool it must be to have to go out and see one of them.

I'm still seeing Pine Siskins at my feeder. Why? (northern PA)

3. They are probably breeding in your area

Last winter was an invasion year for siskins and White-winged Crossbills. Winter before that was an invasion year for all the other winter finches. So, who knows what this winter will bring?
