I think I heard a Kirtland's Warbler today

Never saw the bird, but after reviewing pretty much every passerine bird song, I don't think it could have been anything else. Does anyone know of any bird that sounds like Kirtland's?

1. I talked with a couple guys about it.

One claims that there is an alternate song of Northern Waterthrush that sounds almost exactly like it, but the other guy, who studies Kirtland's on their breeding grounds, thinks I had a Kirtland's.

I reviewed all the waterthrush/kirtland's songs on line that I could find, and I'm pretty convinced I had a Kirtland's Warbler. So that's going on the list!

(I also had Purple Gallinule this weekend, which brings my Ohio life list to 310!)

I've always wondered about that.

3. didn't realize how common the common gallinule was- I really need to get

out to more ponds and lakes so that I can see more waterfowl! When we went to stay near Northwestern U in Illinois last spring, I was at Lake Michigan near there, but I really didn't know what I was looking at and hadn't got my binoculars yet. I am getting a little better with locating the bird and getting the binocs up in time and being patient.


I was looking at the rare bird sitings list here, and I didn't realize how many warblers come through here. I was thinking about joining the local birder's group...
