2010 Wrap-up
Well, it was sort of a slow year for me, what with parenthood duties and a wife working frantically on her dissertation. I only ended up with 243 birds for the year total, with 230 in Ohio. I did manage to add five life birds to bring my ABA list to 469: Ruff, Eurasian Tree Sparrow, Kirtland's Warbler, Pacific Loon and Golden-crowned Sparrow; and 10 birds to my Ohio state list to bring it to 315: Black-bellied Whistling Duck, Cattle Egret, Scissor-tailed Flycatcher, Spotted Towhee, Purple Gallinule, Ruffed Grouse, Ruff, Kirtland's Warbler, Pacific Loon and Golden-crowned Sparrow.

Looking forward to 2011, with a possible Franklin County Metro Parks big day with friends, and a conference in Sacramento I may be able to convince my boss to send me to - which could put me over the 500 mark if I can get a day or two to bird while I'm out there. The start of the year will be slow, as my wife has to put finishing touches on her diss. and birding time for me will be limited.

How did 2010 treat other DU birders?

1. yeah, I kind of figured you were extremely busy with your
kiddo - how old is he now? Ours is 14 and a half and 6 feet tall and eating us out of house and home.

2010 - I actually saw a fair amount of birds on a few trips to Ohio, MD and WV - Eastern Phoebe, Eastern bluebird, cowbird, Summer tanager, turkey vultures, purple martins and house wren. And I suppose some Ohio birds - red- winged blackbird, tree swallows, Blue heron, grackles, carolina wren, house wren and red-tailed hawks.

:hi: Happy New Year to you and your family!

2. Happy New Year to you!
My son turns two at the end of the month. I've already corrupted him into liking birds. He can say "bird" and "duck" already!

3. 2010 was slow
Yellow Rail, Ivory Gull, Streak-backed Oriole, Aplomado Falcon, and the rosy finches were about what I got. :P

Things get desperate when you get in the 600 range. :P
