The 52nd supplement to the AOU's Check-list of North American birds is out. Many significant changes, of which perhaps the biggest is the complete restructuring of the Wood-Warblers (Parulidae).
All the species in the genera Parula and Dendroica (along with Wilsonia citrina (Hooded Warbler), have been transferred to the genus Setophaga; Kentucky Warbler, Mourning Warbler, and MacGillivray's Warblers are transferred from Oporornis to Geothlypis; Canada Warbler, Wilson's Warbler to genus Cardellina; and other changes to some wood-warblers whose latin names don't appear in my desk NatGeo guide and that I am too lazy to look up.
At some point down the pike, will we finally get an updated Sibley with all the warblers and such rearranged, or is the move to electronic field guides that can be updated through downloads going to really slow down the impetus to update the hard copies?
