Help with birding by ear
I keep hearing a bird outside my house at/after dusk which sounds like a Red Tailed Hawk caw. Is it possible this is a Hawk? The sound is coming from a deeply wooded area and seems to emmanate from lower branches.

Any suggestions for a good source for identifying birds by ear will be appreciated.

1. maybe try red=shouldered hawk
OK, if it sounds a bit like Red-Tailed Hawk but you think it isn't, maybe it's a Red-Shouldered Hawk. Sometimes they do perch low in the swamp in a wooded area.

You can listen to their call at enature.com:

http://www.enature.com/fieldguide/showSpeciesSH.asp?curGroupID=1&shapeID=958&curPageNum=14&recnum=BD0096

Hit the tiny little button that says "listen to this species." Could be what you heard.

Blue Jay loves to imitate this species in my area so Blue Jay is another possibility but it is not a loud -- although loud enough!

2. I think that is the bird
The cawing is very similar, but the repetitions/cadence is slower and a bit softer.

I have been fighting the urge to scale my neighbors fence with bino's around my neck to get a look.... arrgh this is driving me crazy
