Baby fell out of nest - what do you do?
My daughter and I came across a baby bird on the sidewalk in town just a little while ago - I moved it off the pavement (it's like nearly 100 degrees here) and brought it home. We could not find it's original nest. No feathers and still a very large yellow beak...would anyone happen to have any ideas how to care and feed this little one?

Any ideas would be very appreciated!

1. call your local wildlife rehabber
If you don't know who to call, start by calling a vet, the local zoo (if it's a good one), or even Fish and Wildlife. Someone will know. Ideal is to put the bird back in the nest. A bird with no feathers has little chance of survival when fed by humans. But since you couldn't find the nest, get a specialist. Handfeeding baby birds this age is no job for amateurs.

2. Thank you, yes.
It didn't make it. Thank you for the advice, I knew it would have been more than I could handle.

3. Aww..... too bad
Always good to have the name of a local contact handy. There are rehabbers almost everywhere.

Good for you for taking it home and trying to care for it.

4. Yep, numbers handy now!
We're new to the area so this has meant new contacts/numbers...*sigh* Just not quick enough yesterday, but I don't know how long it had been exposed.

Thank you both.

5. fwiw
although sometimes they just fall out, momma birds reject and evict sick babies. i raise budgies, and can tell you it is usually a painfully futile thing to overrule a momma's judgement.
