Game time

Here's the game. I'll post a picture of a bird that starts with A. The first poster to identify it can post a picture of a bird that starts with B. And the person who identifies the B bird finds a picture of a bird that starts with C and so on. If you get stuck with x or Q and there are no birds or only a few birds that start with that letter, you can skip the letter if you want.
Rules:

1. It might be too hard to do birds of the world, but I like looking through bird pictures, so I guess we'll see how it goes, and if it gets to bad we can restrict it to the US. If you think the bird is hard you can post give a clue about where the bird came from.
2. Be pretty sure you've identified the bird correctly before you post a picture for the next letter.
3. Don't look at the link for the picture!
4. Post the name of the previous post's bird in the title of your link.
5. Post pictures of males...they're usually easier to identify.

I'm not sure what the objective is...Whoever guesses the most birds wins?

I found this picture on the internet and copied image location and then pasted it into my post. So to find the bird start searching for tropical african birds starting with the letter A.

and no luck here. Birds of the world might be a stretch for just starting this game. Why not try North america to start, then advacne to other regions?

1. Find a picture you like.
2. Right click on the picture
3. click copy image location
4. Go to your DU post and paste the link (Control and "v" at the same time)
5. Rinse and repeat

8. I'm not sure why it didn't work...

The picture you're copying can't be a thumbnail. And if you use yahoo image search or google and you find a picture you want you have to click on it so that it is on a page of it's own. Then you copy image location from there.

Try this.

1. Go to yahoo.
2. Choose images above the search bar and type in "duck"
That should get you to this page:

3. Find a picture you like and left click on it.
4. That should take you to a screen like this:

10. No, don't worry about it.

My dad and I spent a lot of time figuring this out the first time. If you have time, give me a step by step report of exactly what you are doing and I'll see if I can figure it out. You are definately closer now then you were before...it's not just a link now. It's one of those little broken image things, which is a step in the right direction. Actually...it might just be my computer. Can you see the image you were trying to post?

Edit: i'm pretty sure it's your link...when I right click and click on properties, I see the link of the picture I'm supposed to see, but then when I put the link into the search bar (or whatever you call that www. bar) I end up at some microsoft site. If you get time type out exactly what you are doing and I'll see if I can figure it out. Give me a link of a the picture you are trying to post and I'll see if I can post it...maybe it's just something about the picture.

It's in the flycatcher family, one of the first to arrive in spring east of the rockies, pumps it's tail. Name starts with "E", two words in the name, the second part of its name is also how it sounds when it sings.

but, not too far out of san jose you can see them. my neighbor was telling me about a place where they're fairly common and very easy to spot. i'm going to try to get out there soon.

i do, however, have some cool birds right in my neighborhood. i commonly see two different species of parrots, oropendulas, kiskidees, blue-gray tanagers, brown jays, motmots, several species of hummingbirds, and other things.

a squirrel cuckoo, a smooth billed ani, a scarlet macaw, a slaty tailed trogon, a snowy egret, a snowy owl, a social flycatcher, a sandhill crane, a scissor tailed kite, a snail kite, a screech owl or a spectacled owl because surely i could have easily identified those in a flash.

but a true birder i am not, so sparrows vex me. they're too cryptic and never drew my interest...i've always been drawn to the flashier, more conspicuous or more colorful birds.

so, i'll have to leave it to one of the pros to properly ID this one.

82. well, you start posting birds outside the North American continent

things get tougher. I can't touch anything out of the tropics.

I think the S bird is Savannah Sparrow, but I'm not quite sure about that one-the only reference I have at hand is Peterson's Eastern region guide, and that's the closest thing I can find. Something about it doesn't seem right, though. It's not streaky enough, but it could be one of the many subspecies of Savannah Sparrow.

It's a somewhat widespread bird, but it's basically endemic to the lower 48.
