went out birding with the Columbus Audubon Avid Birders club on saturday. We were up in the NW part of the state checking out reservoirs, and near Lima, we found a huge flock of geese in these gravel pits. after spooking them and chasing them back down, we determined we had ~250 canada geese, ~50 Greater White-fronted Geese, ~10 Snow Geese (w/ 2 blue-phase), 1 Cackling Goose, 3 Ross' Geese, and one possible hybrid Ross x Snow goose.
Not only is this one of the few (if not unique) incidents of multiple Ross' Goose in Ohio, it may very well be the first time anyone's seen five species of goose in one day in Ohio, not to mention in one location!
(btw, the Greater White-Fronted and Ross' Goose were life birds)
