quaker parrots or monk parakeets in the USA......
i'm curious in how many places in the US these guys have become established. I've seen flocks of them in Chicago, Miami and Austin. Where else have you folks seen them?

also, i'd be interested in knowing what other kinds of parrot populations people are seeing in the US, particularly north of the subtropical zones.

i had heard there was a breeding population of some type of conure that lived under a bridge in suburban chicago. i never was able to track them down.

when i lived in miami, there were so many species of parrots it made you think you were in the amazon.

3. Long Island
A few years ago I had just finished a round of golf at West Sayville when I heard a loud squawking sound from one of the pine trees. I had to see what kind of bird was making such a racket. I was shocked to see that it was a parrot or a parakeet(I didn't have binoculars with me).
I've heard that there are monk parakeets living by St. Johns University in Queens.

4. I've heard that there are quakers in New York/Connecticut, or
maybe both. It was a long time ago that I heard this so I'm not quite remembering.

5. it wouldn't surprise me
i think they've been outlawed as pets in the state of pennsylvania because they naturalized there and started doing damage to the fruit crops.

6. Quakers are increasing in number in Galveston County...
They love nesting in the electrical transmission lines. I have personally seen they are destructive where crops are concerned. We were in their flight paths for several years and they ruined all my figs and the neighbor's pears. I've also seen them kill a Mockingbird.
