25. Exactly.
Boxer is the real deal and will fight for truth, justice, and the American way. All the other Senators are wimps and will stand no chance against the Repuke criminal enterprise.

17. RIght on!
I've noticed her over the years as sounding pretty smart. She won my unfailing support on January 6th. All other Senators can go to hell.

4. Boxer! TKO!
Boxer4President! All the way she is so smart and so passionate. She knows what this admin is trying to do. Rummy, Rice, Cheney, and all the little neo-fascist war mongerers. If we just unite around her now we can make this work. Oh I hope it is her. She can unite the party and my only worry is if she can win in the south. I doubt it, Bush has that part of the country so brainwashed!

18. Screw the South!
They have no moral character anyway. Win solidly in the blue states (including the actual blue states that were stolen, such as New Mexico and Ohio), and you're fine. Let the hicks learn how to catch up to progress.

16. She already said she won't run for president.
There was a great article on her in the LA Times over the weekend about Barbara.

She's very happy in the senate and has no plans to run for president.

10. The only senator that isn't a pussy...
like the rest of them, that couldn't stand up for justice and for the people. The elections will be there judgement day...one thing I know is that Boxer will survive and triumph on that day, as for the rest....

11. That would not be smart
I'm a big supporter of Barbara Boxer. I think she's a wonderfully articulate and wise spokeswoman for our side. But the Democrats need to be smart in 2008. Hillary, Boxer or any other woman is not going to be elected in this country at this time. The goal is to get the Republicans out. We need a candidate the whole country can embrace. We may be far left and I think that's a good stance, but the rest of the country isn't and we scare them. Let's be smart in '08.

19. We've tried centrist waffling
and it excited nobody. Let's honestly and openly express the values we hold and are proud of. Let's show America which side actually has moral values. Clarity and strength are what's needed (see the polls on that). We'll never win the ignorant hick religious right by trying to be Repuke Lite, so let them be. Let's go after the _real_ moral majority: the left.

13. I think she'd get a solid 48% of the popular vote
But not enough to win the election unless a third-party spoiler (Libertarian???) took a bunch of GOP votes.

20. Great Feisty lady,
but she won't play well in Tennessee. A woman on the ticket while there is so much world unrest (because of Bush) is not going to sell in a lot of places. Wish that it was different, but it's not.

21. I think that the bigots should get over themselves.
We live in the 21st Century. There are plenty of women in Congress, women who are CEOs, and women who are worldwide leaders.

I refuse to compromise OUR progress just because some uneducated bigot down south doesn't want to see a woman run the country. Besides, those voters tend to vote Republican.

22. Thank you.
I want Dems who have the courage to point out bigotry. JUST CALL IT LIKE IT IS, FOR ONCE, geez! If nothing else, it'll get the grassroots roaring.

Next time there's a "Mary Cheney fiasco" (remember the third debate betweeen Kerry and W. Bush?), I want all the bigots outed! I want Ken Blackwell called a racist. And if any DINOs or Repubs start sexist insinuations about a female Dem's qualifications on "homeland security", I want those rats outed without equivocation.

23. Your raise a good point, but I wonder...
Edited on Sat Feb-05-05 12:49 AM by progressiveandproud
...I wonder if our hypothetical female Dem candidate for Prez (or Vice-Prez) decided to confront the sexism head-on and talk about it in public... and maybe if she got endorsements from several well-respected military officials. ;).

There must be something that would mitigate the charge of "weak on national security". I can see the mainstream media parroting this charge with multitudes of headlines like, "Jeb Bush Questions Clinton's Background in National Security". (Er, on edit, that would be Hillary I'm referring to.) And right-wing talk radio would be screaming this message across the nation. Yuck.

That, thank God, is just speculation.

I just want to see a woman, or a person of color, as the Dem candidate in 2008 or 2012. For reasons political and personal. I'm so tired of seeing white, male faces on the national scene (and Christian is, of course, a forgone conclusion, unless there's a hawkish, pro-Israeli-government Jew on the ticket). I'm a white male, but this disturbs me to no end; it's indicative of a majorly diseased, bigoted country. Is it really true that white males are the only electable candidates for Prez?!

For what it's worth, I did get the sense that the mainstream media and Americans in general would've paid more attention to Rev. Al Sharpton's campaign during the 2004 Dem primary, if he were a white liberal; but he was a black liberal, so there was more of this tacit assumption that he was "unelectable". His racial disadvantage was an elephant-in-the-room, I think, since race is so rarely talked about in this country.
