Have I left anybody out?
Edited on Fri Jan-28-05 12:07 AM by Old Crusoe
Tell me if I've left anybody off who, in your opinion, should be on this list of our possible candidates for president in 2008:

Evan Bayh
Joe Biden
Barbara Boxer
Wes Clark
Hillary Clinton
John Conyers
Howard Dean
John Edwards
Russell Feingold
Al Gore
Rev. Jesse Jackson
John Kerry
Dennis Kucinich
Barack Obama
Bill Richardson
Rev. Al Sharpton
Stephanie Tubbs-Jones
Maxine Waters
General Zinni

8. Likewise.
:hi:

Things are going well. The new system we brought online on 1/20, RVSM (reduced vertical separation minima) seems to be helping enroute congestion quite a bit. Since I was one of the local project leads, I'm happy to see it work so well.

5. Election reform and ousting the DLC come first
Only then should we bother thinking about this stuff. With crooked elction machines and witless campaigns run by the same DLC handlers who have been losing over and over again, we don't have a chance.

We could run George Washington and lose.

7. warpy warpy warpy.
Let's just say, for the sake of argument, that I agree with you that your point is well taken. (I do, so it won't be a stretch for me at all.)

I completely agree that election reform is crucial. But concern for it does not halt party activity.

The party is not going to shut down and give up just because Bush cheated in Ohio.

We need to focus on the actual functions of party politics. Election reform, by the way, is a LEGISLATIVE matter, not solely the domain of party functionaries. Your focus should be on your U.S. Senators and Congresspeople if that's your one-issue concern.

16. I love me some Spitzer - but 2008 is too soon
And how will Rove or a ruthless protege go after those on your list (please don't flame, I'm just trying to think like the enemy!)?

Bayh - bland and too green
Biden - plagiarism
Boxer - female and too liberal
Clark - Clinton lap dog and DINO
Clinton - female and, well, Hillary
Dean - "Yearrgh!" (sniff...)
Edwards - evil trial lawyer and too green
Gore - "Sore/Loserman"
Kerry - "Flip-Flopper"; Purple Owie's; "most liberal senator according to the National Journal" (which we all know is bullshit)
Kucinich - not dynamic enough and ultra-liberal

These ones I'm not sure how they'd go after:

Feingold
Richardson

And Obama should NEVER get on any small planes.

Isn't Zinni a Republican? (I'll admit I was getting pretty desperate for a while there and hoping Kerry would choose him as his running mate, just based on his well-founded criticism of what we've done in (to?) Iraq. Pennsylvania working class roots helped, too.)

What about some of those "Coyote Democrats" that did well in the Rockies? Too soon I guess.

19. 'Am appreciative of your comments. What I was after --
-- is a more complete list than the one I had in my head, and was relying on DUers to help forge it.

As to your points on the candidates -- I am aware of those shortcomings, and agree with you that the Rovians will try to subvert just about anybody we send up.

Still, I'm not afraid. We might want to do a little speak-truth-to-power campaign. I would favor hiring some Robert Bly-style poets to give us the language we need to do battle.

Thanks for your post, TWriterD.

snarky - I had just watched footage of Smirk's press conference where he discussed (I'm being charitable) "broke" Social Security and was ticked off! Perhaps we need to start a list of advisers/handlers. Kerry's crew sure did a bang-up job - at least we know who shouldn't be hired!

Four years minus 8 days and counting...ugh.

not as crazy as it sounds . . . he's smart, he's informed, he's progressive, he's an environmentalist . . . pair him with someone with a good foreign policy background and you got yourself a ticket . . . if they can win with a Reagan, we can win with a Redford . . .

20. Doesn't sound crazy to me at all, OneBlueSky.
In fact, it has great appeal.

Redford is much more a world citizen than he is a director or actor, and he's pretty good at directing and acting.

I would have no problem whatsoever volunteering for him and would cast my vote proudly.

Imagine a Robert Redford/William Cohen ticket. That would shock the GOP, I think. They wouldn't know how to handle it.

24. I'm grinning broadly here at my place. "Butch and Sundance."
Another post on DU raised the possibility that Paul Newman would challenge Holy Joe Lieberman in the Conncticut Democratic primary.

Have you heard anything about that?

I'd welcome it. Newman is a fireball liberal and one of the few people who made it onto Nixon's Enemies List back in the early 70s.

Anybody on Nixon's enemies list must be doin' somethin' right.

21. Hi, Polemonium.
I'm not hoping we have all these candidates. I'm trying to make sure I'm not overlooking possibilities.

Long before primary time, I expect our party will have maybe 8 contenders, if that.

Among those, I think John Edwards, Hillary Clinton, and Wes Clark are likely to be the frontrunners going into the Iowa Caucuses.

After that, I think it's between Clark and Edwards.

25. Eight candidates is pushing it.
By the time the democratic ticket was decided, the candidates had already given republicans all the ammuntion they needed trying to beat each other. I'd like to see the primary candidate decided VERY early so they can have a head start on what will probably be a contentious republican primary. The republican cupboard is pretty bare for 2008, and their primary battles should be pretty ugly. I wouldn't be surprised to see the republican party split in half in 2008. Gee, what a crying shame that would be! lol

Biden, Clinton, Conyers, Jackson, and Sharpton should be even be considered IMHO. They are too contriversial and Biden is full of shit half the time.

Boxer, Dean, Gore, Kucinich, Obama, Tubbs, Waters and Zinni will probably not run.

31. Draft Zinni for Senate in 2006 (Pennsylvania)!
Hi all-
I just wanted to mention that I've just posted what I hope will be the beginning of a campaign to draft Anthony Zinni for US Senate in Pennsylvania (against "man-on-dog" Santorum).
Here's the original post:
http://youngphillypolitics.blogspot.com/2005/02/draft-anthony-zinni-for-us-senate.html</a>

I've also just put up a blog:
http://draftzinni.blogspot.com/

And a Yahoo group:
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/zinniforsenate/

If any of you out there have any thoughts on it please let me know, and also if any of you out there in PA wanna help in any way, I could use it!

Also, I can be reached at draftzinni@yahoo.com

Don't look for him to run this time, however. His seat is up in 2008, and he will almost certainly defend it.

The word we keep getting from his staff is that he's not interested in VP spot. I genuinely think he just really, really likes the Senate.
