Democratic Senate Targets in 2006

Hutchinson of TX is retireing to run for governor, who could the Dems nominate who might have a chance of winning this seat? Martin Frost perhaps?

There is talk that Olympia Snowe may retire--who is the the best democrat who could run if she retired or against her if she didn't?

In RI, Lincoln Chaffee is going to have a right wing primary opponent and looks like he will have a formidable Democratic opposition with Secretary of State Brown. I think this very blue state should have a blue Senator.

In Montana, Conrad Burns is thinking of retiring, who would be our best bet in an open race or against him if he doesn't run?

In NJ, Corzine is retiring to run for Governor, who will run to retain this seat for Dems?

If Gov. Warner of Va. decides to forgo a presidential run, he may run for the Senate against George Allen, if this happens it could be a very close race.

In Pennsylvania, a Senate Democratic Poll has Robert Casey Jr. up 52-38 against Santorum--this is our #1 Senate priority.

Now if Bryd of WVA retires who will run? is there a chance Byrd will run again?

Apparently Sarbanes of Md is flirting with not running again, let's hope not.

In Tennessee, Frist is retiring to run for president--who will the Dems run?

1. Ok, I know you guys will think I'm crazy because it is GA after all

but if we don't have a horribly ugly primary between our good for nothing bubba Lt. Gov Mark Taylor (D) and our Sect of State Cathy Cox (D), and praying that Cathy Cox actually wins the primary, she is immensely popular here and always has good numbers. She would go up against our current (and only Repug gov in over 100 yrs) Sonny Perdue. She could totally beat him. His own party is even looking for someone to run against him in the primary.

I think we can take it back.

2. Lincoln Chafee should switch parties.

He would hold the seat as a dem and the pukes can waste their time.

3. Warner vs. Allen would not be that close

While Mark Warner is popular here, he is a Democrat, and George Allen is as or even more popular. In Virginia popular Republican beats a popular Democrat everytime.

I'm honestly not that familiar with her, though, so I don't know what her chances are like. IMO Frost has more name recognition, at least in my neck of the woods. But, she is from Houston, so I think that'd be a good thing.

Dayton is a HUGE target. Both parties hate him. Need to find a replacement (rumours have Frankin challenging him in the primary)

16. Mike DeWine in Ohio, Jim Talent in Missouri

It's hard to say what things look like a year and a half from now, but it could be that the R's are out of gas and just about every mediocre incumbent- and these boys are mediocre incumbents- is hanging on for dear life.

19. Snowe has said she's running but...

there's a rumor that illness may force her to retire. I don't know for sure.

The right wingers here in Maine want to run a "strong" candidate against her in the primary but no one will beat her. She's strong in the general, too, against any Dem candidate. Congressman Tom Allen is a potential opponent.
